Corrs Chambers Westgarth today signed an agreement with Mirvac Group (ASX:MGR) and K-REIT Asia to lease office space at the prestigious new development at 8 Chifley Square in Sydney’s CBD.
Corrs staff and clients will benefit from this innovative and visionary new building, which pioneers in Australia the ‘sky village’ concept which is intended to support a real sense of community and collaboration at work. Workspaces and floors will be linked via atria to create natural light filled environments.
Corrs is the first tenant in the development designed by the internationally renowned architect and urbanist, Lord Richard Rogers of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, in conjunction with Lippmann Associates. Lord Rogers is the winner of the world’s highest architectural honour, the Pritzker Prize. He is best known for public buildings that push the boundaries of both technology and design to become international landmarks and showpieces of environmental sustainability. His projects include the Centre Pompidou in Paris and London’s Lloyd’s building.
Corrs partner and CEO John W.H. Denton said, “We are proud and excited at the prospect of moving into this revolutionary building - the first of its kind in Australia.
“There is symbolism for us in the connection between Lord Rogers’ architectural philosophy and the values of our firm. In my view Lord Rogers stands for achievement beyond excellence. His work is modern, bold, creative, innovative and supremely functional. In all he does, he emphasises the teamwork required for success and this building is all about that. The workspaces are designed to promote collaboration, a value for which Corrs is famous.”
In a recent statement Mirvac's Managing Director, Nick Collishaw said, “We are delighted that Corrs, one of Australia’s pre-eminent law firms has signed an agreement to commit to 8 Chifley and we look forward to welcoming them as our major tenant.”
The move is in line with Corrs' growth strategy, which will see the firm increase in scale by at least a third by 2015. Corrs Sydney office will remain at Governor Philip Tower, 1 Farrer Place, until the move to the new premises on the landmark Sydney CBD site, due for completion in late 2013. Corrs will occupy levels 9-18 of the 30-level development early in 2014.
Located in Sydney CBD, New South Wales, 8 Chifley Square will be a premium grade commercial building on a landmark Sydney CBD site. It will stand at a height of 30 storeys, with an approximate net lettable area of 19,000 square meters.
Mirvac’s integrated platform is charged with delivering the completed product including project leasing and providing ongoing operational management
The ground breaking design is by world leading architects Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and Lippmann Partnership.
The new building at 8 Chifley will deliver exceptional environmental performance and sustainability. The sustainability initiatives proposed should enable the achievement of six-star Green Star and five-star NABERS Energy ratings. The development will hold a co-generation plant resulting in a reduced carbon footprint of 70% for a typical building of this size.
