Premium independent law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth has been recognised for its initiatives in Diversity, winning the “Law Firm Diversity Award” and the “Legal Mentor Award” at the inaugural Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards 2012.

Corrs was the only firm to receive two awards at the event held in Melbourne, last Friday 19 October.

Corrs received the Law Firm Diversity Award that demonstrates a commitment to diversity through its policies.

Corrs partner and CEO John W.H. Denton said, “We have many programs and initiatives that enable us to have a truly diverse workplace and create a high performance culture. Some of these include a market leading 18 week parental leave entitlement, a legal industry first commitment to an ASX Compliant Diversity Policy, and sponsoring and partnering with Melbourne Business School in the Gender Equality Project”.

Other Corrs diversity initiatives include training and coaching to support gender diversity and flexible work, and the integration of diversity principles into broader human resources policies and practices.

Corrs partner and founding chair of the Corrs Diversity Council, Christine Covington received the Legal Mentor Award in recognition of the significant contribution and achievements she has made to the retention, progression and development of women within the firm. Christine is a passionate advocate for women in business and has been Corrs’ Chair of the Diversity Council since its inception in 2006 until 2012.

Mr Denton said, “We are determined to create an inspiring and diverse workplace. This is industry recognition that we are leading the way. Congratulations.”
