In the second new partner announcement this week, premium independent law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth has appointed widely respected M&A specialist Jonathan Farrer as a partner.

Jonathan joins Corrs Melbourne office in the Corporate Advisory Group from Greenhill, a leading independent adviser specialising in M&A, strategic advice, restructurings, financings and capital raisings.

Jonathan is well known in the investment banking and corporate community through his role at Greenhill and its predecessor firm, Caliburn Partnership. Prior to that, Jonathan worked as an investment banker at Macquarie Group and as a lawyer at Allens. Jonathan has over 15 years experience and joining Corrs represents a return to the law.

Jonathan has a stellar deal sheet and has advised on many of the major M&A transactions of recent times, including Coal & Allied on its $10.8 billion acquisition by Rio Tinto and Mitsubishi, Lihir on its $9.5 billion acquisition by Newcrest, OZ Minerals on the sale of assets to China Minmetals for $1.4 billion and Oxiana on its $12 billion merger with Zinifex. Jonathan has also advised on high profile capital market transactions including the Future Fund's $2.4 billion selldown in Telstra and a $3.0 billion equity raising by Santos.

Corrs partner and CEO John W.H. Denton said, “Jonathan is a respected and accomplished dealmaker. He will be an asset to the already strong national Corporate Advisory Group at Corrs.”

“Our partnership continues to strengthen. Jonathan is the fourth new Corrs partner appointment in recent months.”

Jonathan has first class honours degrees in Commerce and Law from the University of Melbourne and also holds a Master of Laws degree. He has been co-editor of the Takeovers and Public Securities section of the Company and Securities Law Journal for over 10 years.

Jonathan joins Corrs on 1 March 2013.
