Corrs Chambers Westgarth partner and CEO John W. H. Denton attended the 3rd Australia-China CEO roundtable in Beijing today on behalf of the Business Council of Australia (BCA).
Mr Denton joined a host of representatives from world-leading companies in the fields of financial services, energy and resources, transport, legal and professional services.
The roundtable was a chance for business leaders from some of Australia and China’s most influential companies to connect, promoting dialogue and discussion on practical steps to strengthen commercial ties with Asia. CEOs also took the opportunity to discuss key issues and make recommendations on important areas of policy to their respective governments.
Mr Denton leads the BCA’s work on Australia’s economic relationships with Asia, and specifically China, as Chairman of the BCA Global Engagement Task Force.
Discussions focused on four topics - the role of professional services industries (including financial and legal services); facilitating bilateral investment; cooperation in energy, mining and resources; and cooperation in agriculture.
The Roundtable meeting was the third to be held since a memorandum of understanding was signed by Chinese and Australian governments in 2007. The meetings continue to be an important means of facilitating a meaningful bilateral economic and trade relationship, as well as growing cultural engagement.
