Corrs Chambers Westgarth Partner Andrew Messenger has been appointed Chairman of the Board of the Sydney Dance Company.
A renowned telecommunications lawyer by day, Andrew will now take the helm of Australia’s leading contemporary dance company. He succeeds outgoing Chairman Julian Knights, who has been appointed Chair of the Australia Council’s Major Performing Arts Board.
“It is with great excitement that I step into the position of Chairperson for one of the most dynamic and innovative performing arts organisations in the country,” Andrew said.
His appointment sets the stage for several fresh initiatives for the Company, including the establishment of new relationships in Asia and a renewed commitment to a strong presence on the Melbourne stage.
Andrew assumes his role as Chair at an exciting time, with a creative and management team well positioned to take advantage of new opportunity.
He will now work closely with Executive Director, Anne Dunn, and acclaimed Artistic Director, Rafael Bonachela, to steer the Company into the next phase of its development. He brings to the table strong expertise in the business and legal industries and outstanding leadership skills.
Andrew has been a member of the Sydney Dance Company Board since 2011.
