Corrs Chambers Westgarth partner and CEO John W.H. Denton AO was again named as one of Australia’s top five most powerful lawyers in the AFR Magazine’s legal power list today. John was the only law firm chief executive to be recognised this year.
The lists of key players across eight sectors, including law, were published in the AFR Magazine’s annual Power Issue. They were determined by a panel of industry leaders.
In making the legal power list, John was acknowledged for his roles as chair of the Business Council of Australia’s global engagement task force and as an originating member of the B20. His recent appointment to the International Chamber of Commerce executive board was also highlighted with the AFR quoting: “Such a position will ensure him influence beyond our borders and entrench his status as a power player par excellence.”
The top five in the legal industry were the Chief Justice of the Federal Court, James Allsop AO, Bret Walker SC, Gabrielle Upton, Fiona McLeod SC and John Denton AO.
Corrs’ Chairman Stephen Price said, “John is an outstanding CEO and Australian business leader. We are delighted to see him publically recognised for his considerable achievements in the legal industry and the business community.”
