Independent law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth has promoted 11 of its exceptional lawyers to Special Counsel.

Corrs partner and CEO John W.H. Denton AO was delighted to announce the new senior level promotions, “These talented new Special Counsel have been recognised for their outstanding commitment to our valued clients, the firm, their workgroups and colleagues. Corrs has a strong and consistent commitment to the service of our clients and the development of our people. These promotions confirm that.”

The appointments have been made across all four Corrs offices nationally and in diverse areas of practice.

The depth of talent amongst the promotions is impressive, with a blend of international and domestic experience, complementary to Corrs’ ambition to be Australia’s most globally networked firm.

In addition to the 11 new Special Counsel, 22 Corrs lawyers were are also promoted to Senior Associate.

Corrs’ new Special Counsel and Senior Associates appointments were effective from 1 January 2016.


Eleanor Kwak – Property & Infrastructure, Melbourne

Since commencing her legal career in 2003, Eleanor has focused on developing expertise in real estate law, working in roles both in Australia and overseas. Her experience allows her to offer an in-depth understanding of the real estate market, client drivers, strong networks and a wealth of practical experience in the real estate law space and beyond.

Georgina North – Workplace Relations, Brisbane

Georgina joined Corrs’ Workplace Relations Brisbane team in 2011. Prior to Corrs, Georgina practiced in International Employment Law in the United States, most recently as a Partner at Seyfarth Shaw LLP in Los Angeles. Georgina is a key member of Corrs’ Workplace Relations team with expertise in employment, industrial relations and discrimination matters. She advises employer clients across a range of industries including energy and resources, education and health, as well as state and local government employers.

James Cameron – Intellectual Property, Technology & Competition, Brisbane

James joined the Brisbane IPT&C team at Corrs in 2011 with significant experience in intellectual property and technology law. He holds a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Queensland and recently completed a Master of Laws at the University of Melbourne. James has broad experience across a range of commercial, intellectual property, biotechnology, health and competition law matters.

James Shirbin – Corporate Advisory, Sydney

James joined Corrs in 2008 with partners Braddon Jolley, Sandy Mak and Jaclyn Riley-Smith. James’ work has focussed on public mergers & acquisitions and he was a key part of the teams acting on ADM’s takeover bid for Graincorp, Whitehaven Coal’s simultaneous merger with Aston Resources and acquisition of Boardwalk Resources and Foster’s demerger of Treasury Wine Estates. In 2014-15, James was seconded to Slaughter and May’s London corporate team.

Jennifer Dean – Intellectual Property, Technology & Competition, Sydney

Since joining Corrs in 2010, Jennifer has built strong relationships acting for many of Corrs’ key clients. She is an experienced regulatory lawyer and her practice is a mix of contentious and non-contentious matters covering competition law, regulated access to infrastructure and telecommunications and broadcasting regulation.

Kirsty Davis – Environment & Planning, Sydney

Kirsty’s practice is focussed on environmental and planning issues relevant to major infrastructure projects, particularly State road and rail projects. She also has extensive experience in advising public and private sector clients on contamination and pollution, environmental compliance and strategic planning issues. Kirsty has specific expertise in compulsory land acquisition and land valuation, having represented the NSW Government in some of the State’s largest compensation claims in recent years.

Leanne Dorricott – Workplace Relations, Brisbane

Leanne joined Corrs’ Brisbane Workplace Relations practice as a Senior Associate in 2006. After commencing her career as an Articled Clerk and following her admission as a lawyer in January 2002, she moved to London for one year and worked at BBC Worldwide in the Corporate practice and performed some consulting work in the area of employment law. Prior to joining Corrs she worked as a lawyer in the Human Resources and Industrial Relations practice at another leading law firm.

Megan Russell – Banking & Finance, Sydney

Megan is a key member of Corrs’ Banking and Finance team, with more than 13 years experience in practice. Megan advises financiers, sponsors and borrowers on a range of financing transactions with a particular focus on corporate, acquisition and property finance.

Rachael King – Litigation, Perth

Rachael joined Corrs’ Litigation team in March 2014. Rachael’s diverse litigation and alternative dispute resolution experience extends to both private and public sector clients. Prior to joining Corrs, Rachael worked for the State Solicitor’s Office of Western Australia and a global law firm. Rachael holds a Master of Laws degree specialising in international dispute resolution from the University of Cambridge.

Rhys Lloyd-Morgan – Property & Infrastructure, Brisbane

Rhys has practised as a specialist in the area of commercial real estate and infrastructure for more than eight years. He has experience in a broad range of commercial real estate matters including property development, acquisitions and disposals, leasing and other property matters. Rhys acts for clients on major projects including large scale rail infrastructure, terminal, warehouse and other developments and the large scale sale, purchase and leasing of real estate assets.

Ruth Hart – Workplace Relations, Melbourne

Now with over ten years’ experience in workplace relations, Ruth Hart joined Corrs in 2006 and is an integral member of the team servicing both private and public sector clients. Ruth has particular expertise advising construction industry participants. On secondments in 2009 and 2015, Ruth also performed key roles in assisting the Victorian Bushfires, and Family Violence Royal Commissions. Before joining Corrs, Ruth worked for a specialist workplace relations firm, employer associations in the mining and agricultural sectors and as a Judges’ Associate.
