Australia’s leading independent law firm, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, has awarded Corrs alumna and General Counsel of Contract Resources, Adriana Hartcher (nee Casamento), as the recipient of the first-ever Corrs Alumni Scholarship.
Corrs launched the Alumni Scholarship in late 2016, providing former employees with an opportunity to enhance their technical and business skills by sponsoring them to attend a short course of relevance to their career anywhere in the world, including all tuition costs, travel, accommodation and expenses.
Corrs boasts an extensive network of successful alumni and maintains close connections with the group, with Australia's ambassador to the United States, Joe Hockey, the firm’s Alumni Patron.
“We launched the Alumni Scholarship to formally acknowledge the contribution that alumni have made to Corrs and to highlight the value of deep and enduring connectedness,” said Corrs Partner and CEO John W.H. Denton AO.
“This scholarship is about continuing the connection with and support of our people beyond their lives at Corrs, and we are delighted to be naming Adriana as the very deserving recipient. Adriana was a valuable team member while she was at Corrs, and she has gone on to achieve considerable success in her career. She is an exemplary Corrs alum and a great ambassador for the firm,” he added.
Mr Denton said Adriana shared the firm’s core values, including Generous of Spirit, To the Point, Connected, Team Players, Pioneering, Agile and World Class, which form the foundation of Corrs’ strong culture.
Adriana is an advocate for young female lawyers and is passionate about mentoring the next generation as many of them encounter the challenges of balancing their family and careers. As part of her role as the scholarship winner, Adriana will work with Corrs to create a mentoring program for Corrs lawyers led by external legal counsel, including herself.
“I am both excited and grateful to be awarded this opportunity. Attending this short course will complement my direct work experience and enhance my growth as a strategic thinker. I am also looking forward to sharing my experiences and connecting with the lawyers of Corrs both through planned initiatives and ad hoc role modelling,” said Adriana Hartcher.
As the winner of the scholarship, Adriana will take part in a Negotiation and Leadership course at Harvard Law School in the United States.
The Corrs Alumni Scholarship follows in the footsteps of the firm’s successful Corrs Scholarship for Individual Excellence program which has been running for more than a decade. The program offers Corrs’ top performers an opportunity to enhance their technical skills by attending a course in either Australia or overseas, including all related costs. Since its inception, 232 people have been awarded scholarships, attending 43 institutions in 11 countries.
