Corrs Chambers Westgarth, Australia’s leading independent law firm, today announces Gavin MacLaren as its new CEO, assuming the role in July 2018 when John W.H. Denton AO steps down to pursue a new career.
John will have successfully led Corrs for 17 years in July.
Gavin is currently a partner of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer where he is a member of the firm’s Global Transaction Group Board and Global Markets Board and Managing Partner of its Singapore office. Prior to joining Freshfields as a partner in 2012, Gavin was a partner of Allens for 10 years where he also held senior leadership roles. He has a strong market reputation as a leading international lawyer focused on major corporate transactions, dispute resolution and public international law and has a strong track record of success in leadership roles.
Chairman of Corrs, Stephen Price, said: “Gavin is an outstanding candidate who will continue to build on the fantastic success the firm has enjoyed under John Denton’s leadership. He brings to the role a wealth of experience in Australia and Asia.”
Stephen also paid tribute to outgoing CEO John Denton: “Without doubt Corrs would not enjoy its current success without John’s enormous focus, drive and direction.”
Gavin commented: “It is a real honour to succeed John as CEO of Corrs and I look forward to building on the firm’s great potential to deliver exceptional results for clients, partners and staff.”
