29 May 2013

Corrs Chambers Westgarth has advised the Federal Government on the development of its National Cloud Computing Strategy, unveiled today by Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, Senator Stephen Conroy.

The exciting new strategy outlines a national vision for cloud computing and innovation, and aims to drive Australia’s ability to create and use world class cloud computing services.

It sets out three core goals and actions to help government agencies adopt cloud services and maximise value; promote cloud computing to small business, non-profits and consumers; and support a vibrant cloud services sector.

The Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy noted the critical role played by Corrs’ Partner James North in the development of the National Cloud Computing Strategy.

“Corrs is thrilled to have worked with the Federal Government on this innovative new strategy which will help place Australia at the forefront of smart adoption of cloud computing,” James said.

“As a leader in innovation, Corrs is well placed to advise on cloud computing and new technologies. Corrs’ lawyers have been heavily involved in the rollout of the National Broadband Network which has notable synergies with the National Cloud Computing Strategy.”

The government will now work with industry to promote Australia as a trusted hub for data storage and processing, while encouraging foreign investment and participation.

The strategy was developed in partnership with industry, the research community and consumer and privacy advocacy groups.
