Australia’s leading independent law firm, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, has elevated 25 of its talented lawyers to the next stage of their career, with nine lawyers promoted to Special Counsel and 16 to Senior Associate.
With the promotions effective from 1 January 2017, Corrs Partner and CEO, John W.H. Denton AO, described the lawyers as the firm’s next generation of leaders.

Alison Teh – Construction, Brisbane
Alison joined Corrs as a Senior Associate in 2014. Alison began her career in commercial litigation, with a focus on US corporations law and securities investigations. For the last ten years, Alison has specialised in construction disputes across a broad range of industries including energy and resources, infrastructure, building and construction and technology.
Alistair Newton – Intellectual Property, Technology & Competition, Melbourne
Alistair joined the Corrs Intellectual Property, Technology & Competition group in 2012 and since then has played pivotal roles in some of the firm’s most significant competition and consumer law matters. Prior to joining Corrs, Alistair was a senior associate at another top-tier Australian law firm and in the London offices of Slaughter and May. Alistair has deep experience in the full range of competition law (including merger clearance and ACCC investigation) and consumer law issues and regularly assists key clients of the firm on matters of strategic importance.
Catherine Oldenburg – Litigation, Sydney
Catherine joined Corrs as a lawyer in 2004. Catherine holds a Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Arts (University of Technology, Sydney) and a Master of Laws (University of Sydney). Catherine specialises in insurance advice and litigation, as well as general commercial litigation and class actions.
Franka Cheung – Energy & Resources, Brisbane
Franka joined Corrs as a graduate in 2005. Over the last 12 years, Franka has developed her practice as a specialist adviser to the energy and resources sector, in particular, in relation to the mining, electricity and rail industries, and on major projects and transactions.
Kate Betts – Litigation, Brisbane
Kate joined Corrs as a Senior Associate in 2014 as a specialist litigator with a strong practice advising the Queensland Government on health claims management, hospital management, clinical governance, accreditation, health practitioner regulatory matters and Health Ombudsman complaints.
Katrina Sleiman – Litigation, Sydney
Katrina joined Corrs as a graduate in 2005. Katrina holds a Master of Laws, Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Applied Finance. Katrina has experience across a range of commercial litigation matters including securities and tort class actions, shareholder claims, directors’ duties, audit negligence and schemes of arrangement.
Kieran Egan – Taxation, Sydney
Kieran joined Corrs as a graduate lawyer in 2006. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (First Class Honours). He has more than ten years’ experience advising on taxes, with a specialisation in real estate and inbound investment.
Marie Costa – Workplace Relations, Melbourne
Before joining Corrs in 2014, Marie was a Senior Associate at a leading criminal law firm during which time she also obtained her Master of Laws from Monash University. Marie also worked as a criminal lawyer at the Supreme Court of Appeal. Since joining Corrs, Marie’s focus has been on building the workplace health and safety practice. With over a decade of experience, Marie’s skills are unique to Corrs and are invaluable under the current work health and safety statutory regime, which is a criminal regime. Marie assists a range of clients with incident response, advice, investigations, prosecutions and coronial inquests.
Nicole Graham – Corporate Advisory, Sydney
Nicole has over ten years post-admission experience. She has a strong background in equity capital markets, public and private mergers & acquisitions, corporate restructures, commercial contracts, shareholders’ agreements, ASX and ASIC regulatory work and corporate governance advice. Nicole has successfully co-ordinated large teams on a number of significant transactions.
