Corrs has announced 22 recipients of its annual Scholarship for Individual Excellence.
The program is unique in the legal industry as it rewards both Corrs legal and business staff for their contribution to the firm by providing the opportunity to travel overseas to enhance their technical and business skills, and to connect with business professionals who inspire and motivate.
More than 100 scholarships have been awarded in the past five years to institutions such as Harvard Law School, INSEAD, London Business School and Columbia University.
This year, consistent with the firm’s strategy of growing its links and business in Asia, Corrs has awarded Scholarships to study in Asia and visit a local Corrs affiliated firm. This provides a close perspective of working in Asia, its cultures, people and business. Other recipients will travel to the US.
Corrs also launched a new award, the John Slattery Scholarship. The scholarship honours retired Corrs partner, John Slattery, for his immense contribution to the firm and rewards and recognises the outstanding performance and collaboration efforts of a Special Counsel, Senior Associate or Business Services Manager within the firm.
The inaugural winners of the John Slattery Scholarship are Alexis Navie, Corrs’ HR Director, and Helen Clarke, Special Counsel in the firm’s Brisbane office. Alexis and Helen will be studying at INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France and Harvard Business School respectively, two of the world’s most prestigious institutions which are renowned for being at the forefront of leadership and business thinking.
Helen said she chose the “High Potentials Leadership Program” at Harvard Business School because it provides participants with the skills to lead under pressure, champion change, build teams and develop effective leadership throughout an organisation.
“These skills are critical in our firm’s environment and align closely with Corrs’ 2015 Strategy, particularly in the areas of collaboration and creating an inspiring workplace for outstanding people. Of course this is also a great opportunity for me to further develop my own leadership capabilities and to compliment my technical skills as a lawyer and adviser.”
Lawyer Robert Bradshaw is attending Harvard Law School’s Negotiation Workshop: Tools for Preparing to Negotiate Effectively. Robert believes the course will further develop his skills in his chosen area of practice, banking and finance.
"It is exciting to be able to attend Harvard Law School. The course is very relevant to my area of practice - offering a unique opportunity to build on my negotiation skills and work with participants from around the world."
