Corrs announces two partner promotions and the appointment of a special counsel

Australia’s leading independent law firm, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, is delighted to announce that James Morley and Simon Reid have been admitted to the Corrs partnership.

The firm has also recently appointed renowned international dispute resolution attorney Mel Schwing as Special Counsel, who joins Corrs from overseas postings at international firms.

Denton AO welcomed James and Simon to the partnership: “Both James and Simon have a strong mix of domestic and international experience and have demonstrated market-leading expertise in their fields. James Morley – Corporate Advisory, Melbourne

James re-joined Corrs in 2012 as a Senior Associate, having spent four years with the firm earlier in his career. James has over a decade of domestic and international experience, including several years spent working on high profile global deals across a number of industries at a Magic Circle firm in London. He specialises in complex Australian and cross-border mergers and acquisitions. He also advises listed and unlisted companies on a broad range of matters, including demergers, joint ventures, ASX listing rules, commercial agreements, corporate governance, fundraisings and procurement. James has acted for a number of the firm’s key clients, including EBOS, BP, John Holland and CUB.

Simon Reid – Banking & Finance, Sydney

Highly experienced in debt financings for acquisitions, projects and real estate financings, Simon joined Corrs in June 2011. In addition to transactions originated in Australia he has also advised on the Australian law aspects of numerous international cross-border deals, and is also a qualified legal practitioner in England and Wales. Simon has advised many of Corrs’ key clients, including the ALTRAC consortium in respect of their successful bid for the Sydney Light Rail PPP, the Brookfield and Macquarie consortium on their acquisition of Quadrant Energy and a leading global investment and asset management firm on numerous real estate acquisitions.

Mel Schwing – Construction, Melbourne

A renowned international dispute resolution attorney who is licensed to practice law in both Australia and the United States, Mel has expertise in international arbitration, cross-border litigation, government investigations, and strategic counselling, particularly in matters involving complex scientific and technological issues. Before joining Corrs, Mel worked for leading international law firms in South Korea and the United States, on matters in other common law and civil law jurisdictions, and as an Assistant US Attorney.  In those roles, he coordinated international arbitrations, criminal prosecutions, and complex litigation defences and advised high-profile corporate and political clients on legal, regulatory, and ethics compliance.
