Australia’s leading independent law firm Corrs Chambers Westgarth is proud to announce the promotion of two outstanding legal talents, David Ellenby, Property & Infrastructure and Nick Thorne, Energy & Resources, to its partnership.

Nick, who re-joined Corrs in 2016, will be based out of Brisbane and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, while David, who joined the firm in 2007 as a graduate, will be based in the Melbourne office.

“Both David and Nick have already made invaluable contributions to the firm and their clients, demonstrating enormous expertise and deep understanding of their clients’ businesses and commercial imperatives,” Corrs CEO and Partner, John W.H. Denton AO, said “We are confident both new partners will continue playing a vital role in supporting and enhancing Corrs’ capabilities in high demand practice areas.”

David has a broad skillset across a range of property disciplines but also has a particular specialisation, and is recognised as an expert, in large scale residential and mixed-use developments.

Recognised as a Rising Star in Doyle’s Property and Real Estate list, David’s clients include Mirvac, University of Melbourne, Country Garden Australia, Frasers, AVID Property, Impact Homes, Port Phillip Housing Association and a number of Chinese developers.

David has also been actively involved in Corrs’ pro bono program, the development of CorrsEdge and is a key member of the Steering Committee driving Corrs’ pioneering approach to the digital disruption occurring in the property industry.

Nick Thorne is an experienced resources lawyer advising multinational and national clients on transactions and project development. He is one of a select group of Australian lawyers admitted to practice in PNG, a qualification he shares with Partner-in Charge of Corrs’ Port Moresby Office Vaughan Mills. Nick’s work in PNG sees him providing advice on corporate and commercial transactions in the country across a range of industries.

Nick has acted for a variety of Corrs’ clients including BP Australia (where he has also spent time on secondment), Oil Search, Newcrest Mining, Harmony Gold, Peabody Energy and MACH Energy. He will work closely with the firm’s Resources partners to continue to build the firm’s already strong practice in both Australia and PNG.

The promotions to partner became effective in April 2018.
