David Murray AO, Chair of the Financial System Inquiry (FSI) was the guest speaker at an exclusive boardroom lunch hosted by Corrs Chambers Westgarth in partnership with The McKell Institute today.
At Corrs’ 8 Chifley office in Sydney, Mr Murray engaged in dialogue on the FSI with a select group of senior professionals from the Australian financial services industry.
The FSI will produce a report which will be the ‘blueprint’ for the future for Australia’s financial system. There was considerable interest in the views expressed by Mr Murray, particularly given submissions to the FSI close tomorrow.
The major issues of financial literacy, disclosure, vertical integration, competition, the importance of retirement incomes in the superannuation arena, the role of regulators and the post-GFC regulatory response, and the power of technology in financial services were all discussed by attendees at the event.
Corrs partnered with The McKell Institute, a public policy institute dedicated to developing practical policy ideas and contributing to public debate. Corrs partner and Chair of the Financial Services Industry Division (FSID), Michael Chaaya opened the event and welcomed guests. Corrs’ FSID leadership team members Mark Wilks, Ayman Guirguis and Henry Self (pictured) were also in attendance at the event.
Individuals and organisations are encouraged to provide submissions with their views on the FSI, with the final report to be released in November 2014.
