James is a highly regarded corporate and private equity specialist who advises clients on a wide variety of M&A transactions, including private acquisitions, public takeovers, carve-out transactions, consortium deals, growth deals and strategic minority and hybrid investments.

His transactional experience spans multiple sectors, including technology, financial services, consumer, real estate and infrastructure. Prior to joining Corrs, James was a partner at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in London, advising private equity and corporate clients on complex cross-border transactions.

In addition to being admitted to practice in New South Wales, James is a Registered Foreign Lawyer in England and Wales.

Apax Partners

Advised Apax Partners on multiple engagements including:

  • the carve-out acquisition of Finastra’s global Treasury and Capital Markets business;
  • the €1 billion takeover of Apax Global Alpha Limited by way of scheme of arrangement; and
  • the €1.3 billion sale of idealista to EQT and subsequent €2.9 billion consortium sale of idealista to Cinven.

Blackstone

Advised Blackstone on multiple engagements, including:

  • its strategic investments in SuperBet and Redpin (Currencies Direct);
  • the takeovers of real estate investment vehicles Warehouse REIT plc and Industrials REIT Limited; and
  • the takeover of Atlantia SpA, a leading transport infrastructure company, valuing the company at $59 billion.

KKR

Advised KKR on multiple engagements, including: 

  • the disposal of a majority stake in A-Gas to TPG Rise Climate;
  • the £1.75 billion takeover of ContourGlobal plc, a power generation business;
  • the acquisition of Hyperoptic, a fibre broadband provider; and
  • the $4.3 billion carve-out acquisition of Wella.

Nordic Capital

Advised Nordic Capital on multiple engagements, including:

  • its strategic investment in TradingHub; and
  • the acquisition of BMLL Technologies.

Silver Lake

Advised Silver Lake and Software AG, a Silver Lake portfolio company, in the €2.1 billion carve-out disposal of the WebMethods and StreamSets businesses to IBM.

Goalhanger

Advised Goalhanger Podcasts, the producers of the “Rest is…” podcasts, on the strategic investment by The Chernin Group.
