James has a broad range of experience across intellectual property law, competition and consumer law, health and life sciences law and major procurement transactions.

By bringing this broad experience to bear, James is able to quickly identify key issues and advise on complex transactions and regulatory matters. He works closely with senior management and in-house legal teams in a diverse range of private, public and overseas corporations and also acts for franchisors and state and local government bodies.

James gives back to the community through his participation in pro bono activities, having acted as a supervisor for LawRight (formerly QPILCH) for over 6 years. James has been a Queensland committee member of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand (IPSANZ) as well as an external presenter of competition and consumer law module for Risk and Compliance at the Governance Institute of Australia Ltd.

Advised on the confidentiality and intellectual property aspects of a Biofutures Assistance Agreement with a major US bio and agri-science corporation.

Department of Agriculture and Fisheries

Advised on the commercialisation of patented nano-filtration sugar electrolyte technology with a potential global market worth hundreds of millions of dollars in royalties.

Queensland University of Technology

Advised on the drafting and negotiation of a range of transaction documents for an autonomous vehicle project with French autonomous vehicle institute, Institut VEDECOM.

Specialized Desanders Inc

Acting for a Canadian firm specialising in patented technology that removes sand deposits from extracted liquefied natural gas, including the negotiation of an exclusive supply agreement for the importation of desanders into Australia.

Sunshine Coast Council

Advised on AU$120 million procurement of whole-of-region waste collection, disposal and recyclables processing services and technologies.

Aurizon

Advised on the scope and effect of intellectual property licence rights granted to participants of a joint-venture arrangement. Also drafted and advised on the negotiation of a complex Standing Offer Arrangement for the outsourcing of major repair and maintenance services for Rollingstock assets.
