Tim is an experienced, strategic litigator with multi-disciplinary experience.

Tim’s practice primarily focuses on high stakes litigation, multi-faceted fraud and corruption investigations and public inquiries, and complex competition and regulatory matters. With particular expertise in energy and resources, technology, and consumer claims, Tim has acted for a portfolio of Australia and the UK’s largest and most significant corporate, public sector entities and individuals during his career. He takes a commercial approach to dispute resolution, emphasising proactive strategies, efficient processes, the early resolution of disputes, as well as strategic handling of major litigation. 

Tim has specialist experience in anti-corruption and white-collar defence matters, having acted for corporate defendants and affected persons in corruption inquiries and investigations, as well as for the ICAC and its former Commissioners in Supreme Court Proceedings.

He also acted for Professor Jenny Hocking, on a pro bono basis, in her successful High Court appeal seeking access to the "Palace letters". Tim is also a director of Gunawirra, an indigenous not-for-profit organisation assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children.

Acting for Australia’s largest privately owned resources company in relation to multiple disputes worth in excess of A$30 billion.

Dell Australia

Advising the Australian subsidiary of a major PC manufacturer and storage supplier on various legal and regulatory issues, including consumer guarantee obligations, matters arising from ACCC investigations and negotiation of enforceable undertakings, competitor allegations, distribution channel arrangements and compliance training.

Anti-corruption inquiries

Acting for affected persons in public inquiries before anti-corruption and integrity agencies, including in Operation Keppel (concerning allegations of corrupt conduct concerning former NSW MP Daryl Maguire) and Operation Gerda (involving allegations of “ghosting” in the provision of security services at the University of Sydney)

David Andrew Ipp AO QC

Acted for the former Commissioner of the ICAC and Appeal Judge of the New South Wales Court of Appeal in a number of high-profile proceedings, including his successful defence to claims brought by the former NSW MP Edward Obeid Snr.

NSW Independent Casino Commission, Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission, Wagering and Gaming Commission (WA)

Advising the casino regulators in NSW, WA and Victoria in relation to a potential major change in the state of affairs of Crown Resorts Limited.

Jenny Hocking

Acted for Professor Hocking in her successful appeal to the High Court seeking access to the “Palace Letters”, correspondence between the Queen and the Governor-General of Australia concerning the dismissal of Prime Minister Gough Whitlam in 1975.
