Australia’s leading independent law firm, Corrs Chambers Westgarth, has advised Prysmian, a world-leading cable manufacturer, on its €600 million (A$1 billion) contract with Marinus Link Pty Ltd (Marinus Link) to develop a new electricity interconnector between Tasmania and Victoria.
Prysmian, global cabling solutions provider leading the energy transition and digital transformation, has signed a €600 million contract to develop a new electricity interconnector for the Marinus Link project. Marinus Link is a subsea electricity project between Tasmania and Victoria that will significantly improve Tasmania’s connection to the National Electricity Market and allow it to increase its import of low-cost renewable energy for use or storage, while also helping meet Australia’s emission reduction targets. The Marinus Link contract will see Prysmian design, engineer, construct, test and commission the cable system to create a fully integrated cable monitoring system.
The Corrs team was led by Trevor Thomas and John Broadhead. Commenting on the matter, Corrs lead partner Trevor Thomas said: “We are pleased to advise Prysmian on the Marinus Link project. This project demonstrates the significant and growing demand for subsea electricity interconnectors and strengthens Prysmian’s global leadership in both the sector and the growing renewables market in the region.
“The project exemplifies Corrs’ position as a trusted advisor on Australia’s largest and most complex environmental construction projects.”
