A specialist restructuring, insolvency and special situations lawyer, Matt regularly acts for clients on both contentious and non-contentious insolvency and restructuring matters, including litigation in both State and Commonwealth courts.
Matt has advised Australia’s leading banks and multiple international non-bank lenders, as well as market-leading external administrators. He has also worked extensively in contested matters involving secured and unsecured debt recovery, breach of director’s duties, fraud, equitable priority disputes and unconscionable conduct, including resolving disputes via both alternative dispute resolution mechanisms and contested litigation. Matt has also been involved in several significant insolvency and restructuring sale transactions on both seller and buyer side.
Matt has over a decade of experience as a non-executive director and extensive professional experience in corporate governance. He is currently Chair of Athletics NSW and was Co-Chair of the Local Organising Committee for the 2023 World Cross Country Championships held in Australia.
Advising on a special-purpose lending vehicle funded by a syndicate of offshore lenders which advanced more than A$300 million to fund the construction of approximately nine construction projects in respect of which the Dyldam Group was the principal builder.
Acting for a syndicate of secured surety clients which had provided significant bonding support to the Clough Group of construction companies – a major Australian construction operation responsible for projects such as Snowy Hydro 2.0.
Acted for a syndicate of offshore special situations investors who provided a construction facility to the development company of Salim Mehajer.
